Bio: Zening Qu is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Washington Information School. She is passionate about using data visualization and human-computer interaction to save lives, by prototyping and evaluating human-centered interactive systems to reduce cognitive frustrations and enhance data analysis and communication for the most burdened information workers — doctors and nurses.
Leading a team of undergraduate and graduate researchers, Zening's work has won a Best Paper Honorable Mention at the top visualization conference IEEE VIS, and their interactive system prototype has attracted commercialization interests from venture capital firms through UW CoMotion.
Zening is advised by Professor Bill Howeand is a member of the Volitional AI Lab (iSchool) and the Interactive Data Lab (CSE). She regularly reviews for IEEE VIS and ACM CHI.
Outside academia, Zening serves as a teacher, usher, and co-worker at the Evangelical Chinese Church of Seattle and the Bethel Fellowship. She co-founded Love Begets Love, a nonprofit for the homeless to receive restorative care packages from their neighbors.
